Writing Experience

November 1999 - Present:  More than 100 articles published in national consumer print magazines or on the Web. My work has appeared in Wired, Ziff-Davis Smart Business, Computer Shopper, digitalFOTO, CARGO, Macaddict, and a technology supplement to Fortune. I've also written for several online publishers, including CNET (which has syndicated my work to The New York Times, Business 2.0, and others), Rob Galbraith Digital Photography Insights (Rob Galbraith.com), Microsoft.com, ZDNet, and The Subway Chronicles. 

My pieces have ranged from 100-word product blurbs to 4,000-word features. A partial list of the types of articles I've written includes: 

  • profiles of individuals and businesses
  • business technology features
  • overviews of various technologies, including Windows and Macintosh computer hardware and software, handheld computers, and Internet software and protocols
  • reviews of individual computer programs, photography products, and digital video gear
  • computer and photography "how-tos"
  • a monthly reader Q & A column
I also wrote 12 chapter-ending sidebars for the book Blue Pixel Personal Photo Coach, published by Peachpit Press in 2004.

I write clean copy, turn it in on time, write proper fact-check sheets, cheerfully tackle rewrites, and don't quote imaginary sources.
Editing Experience

October 2000 - February 2001:  Contract editor for digitalFOTO, a national consumer print magazine. I worked in-house at the magazine for about one-fifth of this period and assigned and/or edited 8-10 features and numerous smaller pieces. 

February - April, 2000:  Contract editor for Cornerhardware.com, a now defunct web retailer, working alternately on-site and from home doing style edits of hardware-oriented features and a web-based hardware product catalog.

Photography Experience

1985 - Present:  Freelance photographer, photography teacher, photographic consultant. I've published many scores of photographs in publications such as Newsweek.com, digitalFOTO magazine, and Rob Galbraith DPI. 

Other Work Experience

1991 - 1999:  Nikon Inc., Sales and Technical Representative, San Francisco, CA. I was responsible for sales and marketing of Nikon photo products for the Northern California/Nevada/Utah territory. Annual sales volumes were typically in the range of (U.S.) $4-6 million.
